ADVANTAGES
A CAMPHILL RESIDENT'S TRUST (CRT) HAS MANY ADVANTAGES WHEN COMPARED TO A SELF-SETTLED TRUST WITH A CORPORATE TRUSTEE:
- A CRT can be established with as little as $15,000 compared to the $300,000 (or more) required by most corporate trust departments. The initial deposit can be as little as $3,000 with two years allowed for the additional $12,000.
- There is no minimum annual fee for a CRT, while the typical minimum fee charged by most corporate trust departments is $2,000. The current CRT fee on each account is less than 2% of the trust's assets.
- CRT, like other trusts, has a team of professional investment managers. In addition, disbursement of funds is overseen by people knowledgable in the areas of special needs and dedicated to the welfare of the beneficiaries.
- The CRT provides sponsors with the convenience of the one centrally managed trust while maintaining separate trust accounts for individual beneficiaries.
- Advocacy is the primary CRT focus. The Trust Board members are vitally interested in the welfare of those with special needs and act as advocates for them.
- The CRT follows the beneficiary. Should the beneficiary move to another Camphill or a different facility the CRT and its advocacy component continues.
- The CRT is established with the intent of preserving the beneficiary's entitlement to governmental resource-based benefits such as SSI. The Trust money is thus available for improving the quality-of life for the beneficiary.
